"It was a big honor for me to receive the international Jane M. Klausman Scholarship. It was great to see how big the Zonta network is and what Zonta does for women in the world." - Carolin Franz, Germany, JMK Scholarship Recipient, 2005
Women have made great strides in the pursuit of education, careers and leadership roles they were once denied; however, today, women are still more likely to be pouring the coffee in global boardrooms than sitting on the boards. In 2009, women held only 15.2% of the board seats at Fortune 500 companies according to the Catalyst organization. The Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship program helps women pursue undergraduate and Master's degrees in business management and overcome gender barriers from the classroom to the boardroom.
Since the program's inception, Zonta has awarded 199 scholarships to women from 34 countries.
Established in 1998 from a generous bequest by Jane M. Klausman, a member of the Zonta Club of Syracuse, New York USA, and the 1990-1995 Zonta International Parliamentarian, the Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship is awarded annually to women pursuing undergraduate or Master's degrees in business management.

"I stand by the goals of the United Nations, and other organizations such as Zonta, and wish to provide my unique perspectives and abilities. It is through these agencies that all women are provided with hope and power to see a change in the status of women." - Celia White, Canada, YWPA Award Recipient, 2008
The progress of women in the last century has dramatically increased the opportunities available to women, yet women's participation in positions of public influence continues to lag behind. Although women account for nearly 50 percent of the workforce, they hold just 18.7 percent of seats in the world's national parliaments as of 31 December 2009, according to the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Zonta International believes young women are the key to women's advancement in the field of public service. The Young Women in Public Affairs (YWPA) Awards program recognizes young women for their demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to public service and civic causes and encourages them to continue their participation in public and political life.
Since the program's inception, Zonta has given 565 awards to 503 young women women from 49 countries.
Established in 1990 by Past International President Leneen Forde, the Young Women in Public Affairs Award honors young women in secondary level or pre-university schools, ages 16 to 19, who demonstrate a commitment to leadership in public policy, government and volunteer organizations. The program operates at the Zonta club, district and international levels. Zonta clubs provide awards for club recipients, and district and international awards are funded by the Zonta International Foundation. District recipients receive US$1,000, and five international recipients are selected from the district recipients to receive awards of US$3,000 each.
