                  Rose Luncheon

                       Lynne M. Jackson was the  
                       Speaker for the 2009 Zonta
                                Yellow Rose Luncheon
                           held on  May 1st, 2009.           

                           Ms. Jackson is a great-great
granddaughter of Dred and Harriet Scott. With her
mother and father, she founded the Dred Scott
Heritage Foundation and commemorated the 150th
anniversary of the Dred Scott Decision in 2007 and
2008.  She has taken the mantle as family historian
and spokesperson, speaking at more than 150
locations across the country since 2007 to tell this
famous story and inspire people of all ages to learn
more of our American history.

Lynne has worked for The Girl Scout Council of
Greater St Louis and for the last 12 years at Bryan
Cave, an international law firm as General Services
Manager.  Lynne enjoys community service for
groups like Community Women Against Hardship
and is on the Advisory Board of Urban K-Life, a
unique mentoring program in the public schools, and
the Diversity Committee of the Association of Legal
Administrators. She produced, wrote and hosted a
cable TV program, “PARRC Presents”. Lynne earned
a degree in Business Administration from SIU –
Edwardsville.  She is a graduate of classical music
from the exceptional Alleda Ward Wells Piano Studio
which was located in St. Louis.

Cathy Babis received the award as a 2008 Outstanding
Woman of the NGA (National Geospatial Agency).  She
was one of only four women chosen in St. Louis and one
of twenty nationwide for this commendable achievement.  
The ceremony, held on April 7, was beamed via satellite
to Hawaii and Washington, D.C. Patrice Mullins and
Brenda Fraser were delighted to represent Zonta at the
ceremony where Cathy was honored by her peers.

Zonta Members welcomed guests from Africa at a
benefit for the Atai Orphanage
Medical Professionals from the Democratic Republic of the Congo spoke about women's
health in Africa, including fistula, at a Zonta reception held for International Women's Day

The Helen Briscoe Spirit Award

Helen Briscoe, a charter member of the Zonta Club
of St. Charles , which was established in 1962, long
embodied the true spirit of Zonta. Our mission is to
advance the status of women worldwide, and
locally. Helen remained an active member of the
Zonta Club of St. Charles from the club’s inception
until her death in 2006. We have established for a
club member who goes above and beyond in her
service to others, as dear Helen did.

Paige Szpatoski will be graduating soon as an
outstanding honor student from Francis Howell High
School , Paige plans to study Nursing at Maryville
University . Her long-term goal is to become a Nurse
Anesthetist. She explored this career path by first
volunteering at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters .
Paige has been a dedicated volunteer at Habitat for
Humanity, American Red Cross, and “Heat Up and
Cool Down St. Louis.”
