It is with great happiness the Zonta Club of Saint Charles reaches out once again to offer an accomplished young woman here in our county a chance to receive a scholarship to help her on her way next year in college. The name of our scholarship program is called YWPA or Young Women in Public Affairs. We are seeking young women who understand how to balance high academic performance with a proven commitment to giving back to their communities. We need your help in finding these women! Though our application process is detailed, the winner will actually have two additional chances to compete for funds, and this is because the Zonta Club of Saint Charles is local, but is also very active in the greater regional and global women’s service organization: Zonta International. The winner from our club will go on to further competition for funds at the Midwest regional and global levels. The local scholarship funded is $500, which is unrestricted, but payable upon receipt of proof of the winner’s semester registration fees and academic schedule. She would be able to apply these funds to any area of her higher education needs. The winner’s application would then be submitted to the Midwest regional YWPA program for consideration for additional funds of at least $500. Were she to win that level, her application would then go on to international competition for an even greater sum. So, one application results in three different chances for the winner to win! Typically, we ask that you invite us to your Awards Assembly, to announce the winner if she is at your school. If you let us know with whom we should communicate in advance, we would be happy to let you know well in advance of any announcements. In addition, we like to meet the parents of the winner at a summer reception hosted by our club, where we would actually award the funds, take photos for the paper, and so forth. Typically, we are involved throughout the year in any number of service projects and fundraising events, and would also work with the young women on projects they might design and execute. It is a great mentoring and networking opportunity for these young women, and we would be pleased to support such a program in your school. 2010 ZONTA CLUB OF SAINT CHARLES YWPA SCHOLARSHIP INFO: These are the basic rules to apply for the local YWPA award, given by the Zonta Club of Saint Charles in Spring 2010: 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 2. Two letters of reference from non-family members must be included (photocopy additional sheets from the single form letter of recommendation included in the packet). 3. All female high school seniors who live in St. Charles County are eligible. 4. The packet, completed as per directions included in it, must arrive by Friday, March 20 to: Zonta Club of Saint Charles 6 Jonathan Court The winner will be selected by a local Scholarship Committee comprised of members of the Zonta Club of Saint Charles. Notifications will go out to the winner’s school, and the winner will be announced at the spring awards assembly. The winner and her family will be invited to a Zonta Club meeting in July 2010, where, if the winner has submitted proof of enrollment for the next semester, she will be awarded her scholarship by the club.
